Circular woven fabric GSM is the mass of fabric in grams divided by its measured area in square metres. The calculation is simple, but the result is only comparable when the specimen area, number of layers and material condition are defined. A flattened tube contains two fabric walls. Treating that specimen as one wall can produce a misleading value. Agree on the measurement method and acceptance criteria before using GSM to compare samples or discuss a circular loom project.
Specify whether the result applies to uncoated woven fabric, coated fabric, printed fabric or a complete bag construction. Added layers, seams and folded regions change what is being weighed. A complete bag mass divided by an approximate face area is not automatically the GSM of its base fabric. Use a clearly identified specimen of the material named in the requirement.
Zhejiang Kangjia Machinery Co., Ltd. describes the MY-YZJ-850/6S circular loom as a six-shuttle small-cam machine for woven packaging. The product page links selection to tape, weave, fabric density and target fabric dimensions. A buyer's GSM requirement therefore needs a fabric definition alongside it; the number does not by itself describe a suitable loom configuration.
Choose a specimen method that makes the layer count unambiguous. If the agreed method uses one fabric wall, separate and identify that wall before measuring the specimen. If the method uses both walls of a flattened tube, document how the combined fabric area is calculated. Do not silently use a single-wall calculation for a double-wall mass.
For illustration only, a single-layer specimen measuring 100 mm by 100 mm has an area of 0.01 square metres. If that specimen weighs 1.20 g, its calculated mass per unit area is 120 g/m². These figures demonstrate arithmetic; they are not a Kangjia product specification, tolerance or recommended test size. A two-wall specimen with the same outside dimensions requires explicit accounting for both walls.
Use the specimen shape, cutting method and measuring equipment agreed for the purchase. An irregular edge, folded corner or damaged specimen makes the area uncertain even if the scale reading looks precise.
A single specimen describes its own location. It does not establish the average or variation of a complete production lot. Define the number of specimens and their positions with the buyer's quality team or applicable agreed method. Record roll identity, direction, approximate roll position and whether the specimen came from a designated edge region or the main fabric area.
A general inspection practice is to sketch the sampled fabric strip and number the specimen positions before cutting. Place each prepared specimen in a labelled holder and enter its actual dimensions beside its mass. This prevents results from different positions or different fabric walls being combined under one untraceable average.
Samples should be taken from material made safe for handling under the site's approved procedure. Do not cut or reach across a moving web. Identify defects separately if the agreed routine sampling method excludes them, and retain their locations for a distinct defect assessment.
Use consistent units: mass in grams and area in square metres. Check unit conversion before averaging results. Keep individual masses, measured areas and calculated values in the record so another reviewer can reproduce the calculation. Record scale identity, resolution and the required check or calibration status under the agreed quality procedure. Remove packaging or tare it correctly before recording specimen mass.
State the specimen conditioning method and any treatment before measurement. Material received wet, dirty or with additional layers cannot be compared fairly with a different reference without acknowledging those differences. If a formal test standard or customer method applies, follow its specified preparation and reporting rules; this article does not replace that method.
Round the final results according to the agreed reporting rule. Extra decimal places do not correct an uncertain specimen area. Where a result is close to an acceptance boundary, resolve measurement uncertainty and the decision rule instead of changing the rounding to obtain a pass.
Two fabrics with a similar GSM can have different tape dimensions, weave structures, widths or appearance. GSM alone does not establish seam performance, bag strength or suitability for a particular packed product. Keep each required property and its evaluation method visible in the specification. Avoid using a weight result as a substitute for an unperformed functional test.
The woven-packaging machinery overview includes extrusion, winding, Circular Weaving and downstream converting. When requesting equipment advice, send the fabric sample, target folding width, warp and weft tape information, intended bag construction and the GSM measurement record together. Ask for the exact model-specific specification. This gives the supplier a defined material target without treating a catalog photograph or shuttle count as proof of finished-fabric performance.
A: Only if the calculation properly accounts for the sampled fabric area and wall count. A flattened tube normally presents two walls. State whether they were separated or measured together, and show the area used in the calculation.
A: The values describe different constructions. Identify all included layers and compare like-for-like specimens. If the purpose is to assess the base weave, obtain an appropriate base-fabric measurement rather than assuming the coating contribution.
A: No. A mass-per-area result does not describe every construction or performance property. Review dimensions, weave, conversion details and the tests required for the intended application separately before accepting a substitute fabric.
