Woven Bag Cut Squareness: Read Edges and Diagonals Together

A woven bag blank can have the requested nominal length and still present a geometry question at its corners or cut edges. For a useful squareness discussion, identify the sample state, define the four reference corners, record the relevant sides and diagonals, and compare them with an agreed drawing. One length or one diagonal is not enough to describe the whole blank.

The MYKWYT-850 cold and hot cutting and sewing machine is presented by Zhejiang Kangjia Machinery Co., Ltd. for woven-bag conversion. Its product description calls for the substrate, finished size, cut type and sewing requirements. A geometry record adds detail to those inputs without assuming that every machine configuration has the same dimensional capability.

Decide which shape the inspection is describing

Start by distinguishing an unsewn cut blank from a folded, gusseted or sewn bag. A seam allowance can change the apparent length, and a fold can conceal part of the material. If the requirement applies before sewing, assess that production stage. If it applies to the finished bag, provide a separate finished-product drawing and method.

Describe the material form: flat sheet, flattened tube or another construction. On a flattened tube, a visible side may be a fold rather than a cut edge. State whether the layers are aligned and whether the measurement represents one layer or the combined flattened form. Do not cut a retained sample open unless that inspection step has been agreed.

Flexible woven material needs a consistent measurement condition. Define how it rests, whether any tension is applied and how wrinkles are handled. Pulling one corner until a rectangle appears changes the evidence. Record the agreed condition so that the buyer and supplier can compare observations made at different locations.

Give the corners names before recording distances

Mark corners A, B, C and D in sequence on a sketch or photograph. Add the feed direction and identify which edges were cut during the operation under review. Record distances against those names: AB, BC, CD and DA for sides, with AC and BD for diagonals. A simple map prevents uncertainty about which pair of points a number describes.

General inspection suggestion: place a sample identifier beside the blank in an overhead reference photograph, with the corner labels visible. Keep the measurement sheet under that same identifier. Use the photograph to explain orientation; retain the actual recorded measurements because camera perspective can make a sound edge look skewed.

Agree where a corner lies when the edge has loose fibres, a heat-affected bead or a rounded transition. Measuring from the longest protruding fibre on one sample and the main fabric boundary on another introduces a different reference. The drawing or inspection note should define the boundary being assessed.

Use diagonals as part of a geometry check

For an ideal rectangle, opposite sides are equal and the two diagonals are equal. However, equal diagonals alone do not prove that an arbitrary four-sided shape is rectangular. A useful check therefore considers edge lengths, edge straightness and corner relationships together with the diagonals. The agreed measurement method should match the actual flexible sample.

A reported diagonal difference can flag a sample for closer review, but it does not by itself identify a machine fault. Material distortion, layer displacement, folding and handling can affect the observed shape. Keep the original measurements and sample state available before attributing the result to feeding, cutting or another process stage.

If corner angles or perpendicularity are specified, name the reference edge and the approved inspection method. Avoid silently substituting a diagonal comparison for an angular requirement. Different geometric checks can reveal different conditions, and the buyer's drawing should determine which results are used for acceptance.

Compare a sample group instead of selecting a flattering blank

Agree on sample quantity, selection points and the production condition to be represented before the trial. Keep the sequence or time reference for each blank. A group collected during one steady period does not automatically describe startup, material changes or a later roll. Separate those conditions in the report when they matter to the purchase.

Record each result rather than only a mean. Two groups can have the same average length while showing different individual shapes. Include observed edge condition and layer alignment in a separate notes field. This helps the reviewer distinguish a geometry measurement from an appearance judgement.

General sample-handling suggestion: retain one clearly labelled example of each observed condition, including a sample that needs review. Store it without introducing a new fold across the measurement area. A retained specimen can help both parties revisit a disagreement that a cropped photograph cannot resolve.

Turn the findings into a clear supplier inquiry

Send the drawing revision, material description, coating or liner details, cut method, sample map and measurement condition. Include whether the concern exists before or after sewing. State the requested dimensions and tolerances as buyer requirements for technical review, not as capabilities inferred from a product name or catalogue photograph.

For a cold-cut or hot-cut project, discuss the required finished edge and the actual substrate with the supplier. The choice can affect the edge being inspected, but this article does not prescribe settings or machine adjustments. Operational changes should follow the machine documentation and the supplier's approved procedure.

Keep unresolved issues explicit: unclear corner references, displaced layers or uncertain conditioning should be recorded before approving a result. The company information page provides broader business context. The final machine configuration, sample method and acceptance agreement need to address the particular bag rather than a generic rectangular outline.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: Are matching diagonal lengths sufficient to approve bag squareness?

A: No. Equal diagonals alone do not establish a rectangle for every possible four-sided shape. Review the side and corner requirements, edge condition and sample state using the agreed method and drawing.

Q2: Should I measure the sewn bag against the unsewn blank drawing?

A: Use the drawing for the production stage being assessed. Sewing and folding can change the visible dimensions. Link the two drawings if needed, but do not treat their reference points as automatically interchangeable.

Q3: Can a photograph establish the amount of cut skew?

A: A photograph helps show direction and condition, but perspective and fabric placement can distort the apparent shape. Use identified physical measurements for acceptance and keep the image as supporting context.
